I was shocked to find out the ending to the movie Erin Brockovich and the resulting settlement from the case between the town of Hinkley and PG&E. The end settlement amount was 333 million dollars, what a shocking number when considering throughout the movie PG&E was offering amounts as measly as $250,000! The law firm ended up earning 40% of the final settlement, and Erin ended up with a $2.5 million. ( ^ Ebert, Roger (March 17, 2000). "Erin Brockovich"Chicago Sun-Times. Retrieved 2008-05-07.)

I am constantly being inspired by other designers and clothing brands. I hope to one day have the experience of having my own line. In my studies recently, I have been consumed with reading about many current designers and how they got started. It takes drive and passion to be as successful as they are, and also a great deal of knowledge about how branding works and what goes into building a company. I love the idea of mixing the idea of fashion with business. I've learned so much already this quarter, and it's only week 1!

As a student studying the art and business side of fashion, it is very important to stay knowledgable of the latest trends on the runway and the colors being displayed. I am absolutely in love with one color/trend that is very prevalent right now; it also happens to be the 2013 Pantone Color of the year... Emerald. This magnificent shade of green is all over the runway and in the stores. We can predict that a number of designers will soon be previewing their Spring 2013 collections highlighting this color called Emerald. A major reason why this shade has gained such popularity is because of its ability to look great when worn on virtually any skin tone, and on male or female. Here I have attached some images truly displaying the art and elegance of this color.

One of my biggest inspirations is the clothing line J.CREW. One of my career goals is to be a buyer for this company/design for a company similar to theirs. J.CREW is a brand that includes just very simple and classic pieces. I absolutely love the idea of mixing and layering basics, and having fun with patterns/color. This photo is one of my own J.CREW inspired fashion sketches.

Week 1 EOC: My Voice

As a professional in the fashion industry, I have always loved the fashion world. I can remember being a small girl and sketching fashions and making art in relation to fashion. I am a painter by trade and it is the one thing that relaxes me more than anything; it's my passion. I knew early that my calling in the career world was going to be art related. I started off here at the Art Institute very interested in Graphic Design, and had plans to use my artistic skill in a very direct manner. Pursuing Graphics left me empty, I knew what was consuming my mind 24/7 and I could not ignore it! I realized I am totally consumed in the fashion world, image, branding, and the pure art of fashion design.
